MEXICO CITY COLLAGE_1 [CASA LÜ ARTIST RESIDENCY, JULY-SEPT_2023_MEXICO CITY]
This series of collage pieces are a continuation of the Creatures of Assemblage and Architectures of the Unexpected project explored during my time at Casa Lü in Mexico City.
After observational walks around CDMX, I formulated a fragmented vocabulary of sketches, recording an unfolding collection of forms, textures and details that make up the fabric of the city. The collages were an exercise in reinterpreting these traces into new compositions, utilising chance combinations of these fragments to create new imaginative architectures.
The collage series celebrates an alternative architectural dreamscape inspired by a poetic reinterpretation of our overlooked everyday surroundings, as surrealist dreamscapes of an alternative architectural world beyond our familiar urban experience.
