ARCHITECTURES OF THE UNEXPECTED [CASA LÜ ARTIST RESIDENCY, JULY-SEPT_2023_MEXICO CITY]
Architectures of the Unexpected is a painting series composed during my time at Casa Lü artist residency in Mexico City.
The project began with a series of walks around Mexico City which have informed a fragmented vocabulary of sketches, recording an unfolding collection of forms, textures and details that make up the fabric of the city. I have been working on reinterpreting these traces into unexpected, imaginative architectures, through a methodology of collage and chance theory that is informed by the adventure of not knowing.
The acrylic painting series celebrates an alternative architectural dreamscape inspired by a poetic reinterpretation of our overlooked everyday surroundings, as surrealist dreamscapes of an alternative architectural world beyond our familiar urban experience.
